Our History
Beta Alpha Psi is an international honor society for high achieving accounting students that recognizes academic excellence, professional development and community service in fields related to the creation, management and analysis of financial information. The society complements its members' formal education by providing interaction among students, faculty and accounting professionals, and fosters lifelong growth, service and ethical conduct.
On September 4, 2008, the Mu Beta Chapter (#277) of Beta Alpha Psi at the College of Charleston was officially installed by BAP President Nancy Nichols (JMU) and BAP Director Suzanne McCaffrey (Ole Miss). At the installation dinner, 62 members, including eight Honorary Members, were formally initiated as founding members of the Mu Beta Chapter.
The addition of a Beta Alpha Psi chapter was an important milestone for the Department of Accounting and Legal Studies. Its national recognition and high academic standards make members of the society highly sought after by accounting recruiters. In addition to educating its members on career opportunities, the society encourages them to be socially responsible by finding ways to better the lives of others.
